Transform Your House with New Windows & Doors
Double-Hung Windows
Double-Hung Windows Made in North America & Covered for Life
Double-hung windows from Castle Windows pair a traditional appearance with insulated glass and virgin vinyl construction. Both the upper and lower sashes operate for flexible ventilation, while the tilt-in design makes the exterior glass accessible from inside the home. Each window includes double-pane, double-strength glass for residential replacement applications.
Our double-hung windows are available with design options that can be customized to a homeowner’s specifications. Whether you want the replacement windows to coordinate with your home’s existing architecture or support a planned exterior update, we can help you select an appropriate look. Available choices depend on the product configuration selected for your home.
Double-Hung Window Construction & Weather Performance
Our Super-Energy-Saver windows include built-in features for durability, security, and year-round performance. Double-pane, double-strength glass and virgin vinyl frames are designed for exposure to wind, rain, debris, and heat. Dual locks support a tight closure and help limit air infiltration.
The insulated glass package includes low-emissivity glass and argon gas fills. Low-emissivity glass has a thin coating that helps reduce unwanted heat transfer through the glass. Argon is an insulating gas placed between the panes to further limit heat transfer. Actual performance depends on the complete window assembly, installation, climate, and condition of the surrounding wall.
Easy Cleaning & Care
Tilt-in sashes allow homeowners to clean the exterior-facing glass from inside the home. This eliminates the need to clean the glass from the outside during routine care. Cleaning needs can vary based on exposure to pollen, dust, salt, pollution, and other environmental conditions.
We recommend cleaning your windows two to three times per year. Use a soft cloth with dish soap and water to wipe down the frame. Tilt the sash inward, then clean the glass with a soft towel. Avoid rough tools or abrasive cleaners unless they’re specifically permitted by the product care instructions.
Energy Efficiency & Window Performance
The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that windows are responsible for 25% to 30% of residential heating and cooling costs*. That figure doesn’t mean every replacement project produces the same savings. Utility costs and indoor comfort are influenced by the home’s existing windows, insulation, air sealing, orientation, climate, and heating and cooling systems.
Insulated double-pane glass, low-emissivity coatings, argon gas, frame construction, and proper installation all affect window performance. U-factor measures the rate at which heat moves through a complete window assembly, with a lower number generally indicating better insulating performance. Replacing inefficient windows can reduce drafts and support more consistent indoor comfort, but actual energy savings vary from one home to another.
Lifetime Support for Double-Hung Replacement Windows
Castle Windows provides free lifetime service labor for covered warranty requests and 24-hour personal assistance for warranty service.
When comparing replacement window companies, review who manufactures the product, who is responsible for installation, which components are covered, whether service labor costs extra, and whether the warranty transfers when the home is sold. Our product, installation, and service commitments are structured to address each of those concerns.

Everything You Need to Know
-
What is the difference between double-hung and single-hung windows?
Both styles have vertically arranged sashes. A double-hung window allows both the upper and lower sashes to move, while a single-hung window typically has only one movable sash. The appropriate choice depends on ventilation preferences, cleaning access, design, budget, and the existing opening.
-
Can replacement double-hung windows fit existing window openings?
Replacement windows are commonly selected to fit existing openings, but fit depends on accurate field measurements, frame condition, and the home’s construction. A professional assessment is needed to determine the appropriate product configuration and installation method.
-
What should I check before replacing double-hung windows?
Check for drafts, condensation between glass panes, difficult operation, damaged frames, visible moisture, deteriorated seals, and glass failure. The condition of the frame and surrounding opening should also be evaluated before selecting a replacement method.
-
How long does double-hung window replacement take?
Project duration varies based on the number of windows, accessibility, existing opening conditions, weather, finishing needs, and installation method. The installer should provide an expected schedule after assessing the home and confirming the project scope.
